All the papers Canon uses are FSC and PEFC certified. This means that the trees needed to make the paper are grown in sustainably managed production forests.
Canon contributes to a carbon neutral future with a wide range of climate neutral printing paper: the Zero range. This includes the widely used Canon Black Label Zero as well as Top Colour Zero, Orange Label Zero and Recycled White Zero.
Paper is only climate neutral when the impact of all gases that have a negative effect on our climate and global warming is offset. So not only CO2 (carbon dioxide) - in that case it is CO2 neutral paper - but also CH4 (methane), N20 (nitrous oxide), gases containing fluorine, O3 (ozone) and water vapour. And this must be measured across the entire production chain, including harvesting, the paper production itself and all transport movements.
At the Canon production site in Kerkdriel, we print on Black Label Zero as standard:
- The wood comes from sustainably managed forests that are FSC certified.
- Zero CO2 emissions during the production process.
- In addition to 80 gr/m2 paper, 75 gr/m2 is also available. This requires less wood fibre to produce the paper. This means that 6.25% fewer raw materials are needed for the same number of sheets.
- Black Label Zero is TCF, EU Ecolabel and Nordic Swan certified.
ClimatePartner and Canon
Unfortunately, not all emissions can be completely avoided. But the emissions we do still create can be offset by projects that help remove CO2 from the atmosphere and otherwise benefit the environment. With our Zero series, we offset the footprint created by transporting the paper by supporting global projects run by ClimatePartner. Canon has partnered with ClimatePartner, an international provider of climate protection solutions, since 2015. Since the partnership, over 48 million kilos of CO2 have already been offset.
